At around 10pm on October 5th last, 30-year-old Stacey Massey and a male accomplice entered utility room and kitchen of Anthony Daly’s home.

Inspector Tom Kennedy told the court that Mr. Daly was unaware of the burglar’s presence in his home, but that his wife and another daughter saw them flee the house when they returned home.

Gardaí were alerted, and Ms. Massey of McGarry House, Alphonsus Street, Limerick and her accomplice were apprehended by Gardaí in scrub area near the home.

Gardaí recovered €50 and a gift voucher from the male – he was jailed for his role in the crime last October.

Just an hour before this, the pair had been released from custody at Kilrush Garda Station having been processed in relation to abandoning a crashed car near Lissycasey earlier that evening.

Judge Patrick Durcan said that the Dalys didn’t want to come to court to give victim impact evidence “but that doesn’t mean that there are not victims.”

The court heard Ms Massey is currently being rehabilitated at the Ana Liffey Drug project in Dublin and that she unreservedly apologises to the Dalys.

Judge Durcan sentenced her to 14 months in total for the two offences of burglary and abandoning the car, suspending the final three months.
