Meanwhile, the ESB has cancelled all planned power outages in Clare until it has passed, as Clare FM’s James Mulhall reports:

Here in Clare, focus is on having a plan in place so that emergency response teams are ready to spring to action.

Cahercalla, Corofin and Newtown were all set to see works taking place this week and new dates will be issued once the weather warning ends.

There are also 1,300 tonnes of grit in storage in Clare to tackle icy roads.

Up to 10cm of snow is expected in these parts and Senior Engineer with Clare County Council Tom Tiernan believes it’ll mean very dicey conditions.

Meanwhile, Clare County Council is being urged to provide grit supplies to rural primary schools in this county so that people aren’t left waiting around for roads to be cleared.

Independent Councillor PJ Ryan insists that by putting some of the county’s grit in place in rural areas, people can work on clearing quieter roads themselves – something that he says has been successful elsewhere.
