Ennis Teen Jack Kenneally Laid To Rest

A large crowd have paid their respects to teenager Jack Kenneally at his funeral in Ennis.

The 15-year-old tragically lost his life, along with his friend Shay Moloney, in a drowning incident at a quarry in Knockanean on Thursday.

Ennis Cathedral was packed today by people, young and old, who gathered to say farewell to Jack Kenneally, and to express their condolences with his family.

He was remembered today as a young boy who was loved by his friends, and in particular by his family.

Jack’s love of sport was reflected during today’s funeral service.

Gifts, brought to the altar by some of his cousins, included a rugby ball used in matches that had been won by Jack and the Ennis Under-15s in their recent successful season – it had been signed by his teammates.

Other gifts represented his love of football, and in particular local club Park United and Liverpool.

Celebrant Fr. Tom Hogan reflected on what they said of the young teen

Padraig Brennan, who coached Jack and Shay at Ennis Rugby Club, spoke at today’s service and recalled Jack as a player of strength, of speed, and of valour.

His father Sean also spoke, and thanked those who had rallied around his family during this time of unspeakable grief.

He said his son was an outstanding athlete and person, and a good friend to many

Jack Kenneally is survived by his parents Sean and Tina, his older sisters Danielle, Katie and Aisling.

His friend Shay Moloney was also remembered throughout today’s funeral mass.

This evening, his remains will lie in repose at the home of his grandparents, and his funeral will be held at Ennis Cathedral tomorrow.
