The Mayor of Ennis is appealing to people in the county town not to buy smoky coal, for fear they are putting the health of those with respiratory illnesses at risk.
There is currently a ban in place in Ennis and its environs on the burning of smoky coal, as well as a number of other parts of the country.
However, Ennis Fine Gael Councillor Johnny Flynn wants that restriction extended to a nationwide one and says many people are still ignoring the ban, despite the EPA warning of the damaging impact of the pollution it causes.
