University Hospital Limerick is currently managing high volumes of patients including significant volumes of frail elderly patients with chronic conditions and complex care needs.

Yesterday alone saw 63 patients at the Dooradoyle facility without a bed.

It means elective activity scheduled for today has been curtailed, with the exception of cancer, cardiac and other urgent procedures.

The UL Hospitals Group is apologising for any inconvenience and is asking members of the public urged to consider all their care options at this time and not to attend the Emergency Department unless necessary.

Their statement goes on to say that they are working to alleviate the situation.
