Ennis Mayor Calls For Funding For New Ennis Secondary School

The Mayor of Ennis is urging the Department of Education to release funding for a new secondary school for the county town.

Johnny Flynn says capacity issues at schools in Ennis, which led to serious concern about whether enough spaces were available for pupils this year, will only worsen with new housing developments planned.

Clare County Council acquired a former quarry site at Gaurus in recent months and is in the process of producing a masterplan for it.

Fine Gael Councillor Flynn believes this would be the ideal location for a new second level school, given its proximity to locations on that side of the town.
