Between January and Septemebr of this year, most types of crime in Clare have fallen.

Figures presented by Gardaí to the county’s Joint Policing Commitee shows burglaries are down 16%, thefts are down 10%, speeding offences are down 11% and assaults are down by a quarter.

There are notable increases in two areas however.

Domestic disputes are up seven per cent, while also in the area of what Gardaí classify as domestic incidents, breaches of barring, safety and protection orders are up nearly a third.

In the area of drugs offences, meanwhile, 85 people have been charged with having drugs for sale or supply, which is up by over a quarter.

There’s been a 36% increase in offences related to the possession of drugs, with 238 of those recorded this year.
