Dooley Claims Fine Gael Will Pay At The Polls If SCU Isn’t Scrapped

Clare’s Fianna Fáil TD insists if the government continue to ignore calls to scrap the Strategic Communications Unit, they’ll pay for it at the polls.

It’s after a vote on a Sinn Féin motion calling for its disbandment passed by 85 votes to 49 in the Dáil last evening.

The Taoiseach has now asked for a review of the unit to be carried out and the recommendations from this will be brought before the cabinet.

The unit came under fire for €1.5 million newspaper advertisements for the Ireland 2040 development plan, which opposition TDs said were made to look like news articles but featured Fine Gael candidates.

Timmy Dooley, who’s his party’s Communications Spokesperson and has previously called for its disbandment, has been telling me it would be undemocratic not to listen to this vote.
