Department Declines To Confirm UHL Unit Funding Despite Minister’s Assurances

The Department of Health has declined to confirm that the National Children’s Hospital overspend won’t derail plans for 60 new beds at University Hospital Limerick.

That’s despite an assurance given by Minister Simon Harris to Clare’s Junior Minister Pat Breen that the new modular unit at Dooradoyle would go ahead in spite of the strain on finances.

Just yesterday, Minister Breen confirmed to Clare FM that he had been told the modular unit would go ahead, but hours later there was no such assurance when the matter was raised in the Dáil.
