Decision Due On Local Property Tax Levels

Clare County Councillors will make a decision on local property tax levels here in the coming weeks.

It's been confirmed that Clare is one of nine local authorities that has been told it can reduce the tax, as has been the case this year.

Under the current system, councils retain eighty per cent of money collected, while the remaining twenty per cent goes towards a Governement-operated equlisation fund.

A fifteen per cent reduction was implemented in Clare last year but Councillor Richard Nagle says there will have to be further discussion before a decision is made on whether to retain it.
