Date Deferred For Arrival Of Asylum Seekers In Lisdoonvarna

The wintry weather conditions have prompted a change in the expected arrival date of the first group of asylum seekers in Lisdoonvarna.

As a result of the weather alerts, Government agencies will no longer attend tonight’s public meeting on the matter in Lisdoonvarna.

Representatives from a number of departments were due to address the local community to outline details of the provisions being put in place ahead of the arrival of asylum seekers at the King Thomond Hotel in the North Clare village.

That meeting now goes ahead next week, and as a result the arrival of the asylum seekers is being deferred by one week to March 12th.

Tonight’s meeting will still go ahead without the government agencies, however, and locals will be asked to have their say on whether they want the facility to come to Lisdoonvarna.

Chair of Lisdoonvarna Fáilte Paddy Dunne fears the centre could have a serious impact on the village:
