A candlelight walk to commemorate the women who have been killed in Clare by their partners or exes is to take place this evening.
The event, organised by the charity Clare Haven, is part of the annual 16 Days of Violence initiative and will be a somber reflective walk from the Garda Station to the Court House in Ennis, starting at 6.30pm.
Between January and October, this year, 53 women and 81 children received refuge with Clare Haven services, while 212 women sought help.
Domestic violence is one of the least prosecuted crimes and Interim Service Manager at Clare Haven, Dr Siobhán O’Connor says despite best efforts of many services to educate and intervene, its continuing to happen in homes across the county.
Clare Haven’s confidential 24-hour support line is 065 6822435.
