Call For Government To Robustly Engage On Issue Of Asylum Seekers

The Clare Immigrant Support centre is calling on the Government to become robustly engaged in international policies, to ensure each country is living up to it’s responsibilities when it comes to the movement of people.

Since the introduction of Direct Provision twenty years ago this month, over 65,000 people have been helped by the system in Ireland, and there are currently 800 people granted asylum who haven’t been able to move out of this type of accommodation.

The Justice Minister has said the system is under strain, with a 60% increase in applications so far this year.
