Concern In Clare That People Think Court Fines Are Optional

An Ennis solicitor has expressed concern that Ireland’s legal system is sending out a message that court-issued fines are optional.

New figures from the court service have revealed that around two thirds of fines issued in Clare courts over the past two years have not been paid.

Across 2017 and 2018, over €1 million in fines were issued through the courts in Ennis, Kilrush and Killaloe and around €668,000 of that remains unpaid.
