Clare Councillor Believes Car Thieves Followed Him On Campaign Trail

Gardaí are carrying out extensive searches for a car belonging to a member of Clare County Council, which was stolen while he was canvassing for the election.

Pat Hayes was on the campaign trail for his party colleague Timmy Dooley, on the Ennis to Tulla Road last night.

He parked his grey coloured Volkswagen Tiguan, with the registration 171 CE 1175 near Clooney stores shortly before 8 o’clock last night, and it was stolen soon afterwards.

Inspector Morgan O’Donoghue from Ennis Garda Station says the investigation is at an early stage.

Councillor Hayes has spoken of his of his shock following the incident.

He believes those involved may have been following him.
