The 17 cases diagnosed in this county in the past week is the lowest number in a single seven day period since the beginning of September 2020.

The percentage drop is among the highest in the country, along with Donegal – only Kilkenny has seen a higher fall.

Neighbouring counties of Galway, Limerick and Tipperary have also seen significant percentage drops of confirmed cases.

The average number of close contacts reported by the CSO here continues to fall also – it now stands at 2.2 in Clare having been 2.7 a month ago.

Another three COVID-related deaths have been recorded in this county in the past fortnight, leaving Clare’s death toll since the beginning of the pandemic at 113.

It comes as Clare recorded no new cases of the virus last night, for the first time this year, while neighbouring counties Limerick and Tipperary both recorded fewer than five cases.

There were 18 patients being treated at University Hospital Limerick last night, down 2 on the previous day, while there were 6 patients in the ICU.
