Council Issues Road Safety Warning

Commuters heading home this evening are being urged to drive with “extreme caution” amid ongoing heavy rainfall in parts of County Clare.

Heavy rainfall throughout the day has led to spot flooding in many areas, especially in the West of the County.

Large amounts of surface water are reported on the Cooraclare-Kilrush Road, while other problems have been reported in the Kilnamona area, on the approach roads to Kilkee and on the Kilrush to Ennis N68 road.

Heavy downpours are expected this evening and overnight.

Council Senior Engineer Tom Tiernan has this advice:

Meanwhile, a weather warning which had been in place today has been extended into tonight and up until noon tomorrow.

Met Éireann, which has issued the status yellow alert, are warning of snow, and say temperatures will drop.
