Ennis General Hospital has issued an urgent appeal for the public to co-operate with the visiting ban in place to combat the spread of COVID-19.

An outright ban across all UL Hospitals Group sites has been in place for the past fortnight, in an effort to contain the spread of the virus, with exceptions only in certain circumstances, such as for children or end-of-life patients.

However, over the past number of days a high level of visitors have been reported at the hospital, intent on visiting their inpatient relatives in non-essential cases.

Operational Director of Nursing Patricia O’Gorman has acknowledged that the ban is difficult, but she says it’s in place for a reason.
