Conway Hopeful Trump Will Still Visit Doonbeg

Clare’s Senator is hopeful that Donald Trump will still visit Doonbeg, even if it’s at a later date.

Disappointment is being expressed locally at the postponement of the Presidential visit, which was expected to bring the world’s attention on the West Clare village, where he was to make a trip to his luxury golf resort.

Less than two weeks after it was first announced, Donald Trump’s planned visit here appears to be off.

A spokesperson for the Irish government blaming scheduling issues on the US side for the cancellation. – the White House, meanwhile, says it’s postponed – despite saying at first that details were to be finalised.

The mixed messages emerging from Leinster House and the White House led to widespread confusion over the fate of the visit.

In Doonbeg itself, locals are disappointed at the loss of the media attention and expected economic boost that the visit would have brought.

Local resident Liam Ryan says this would have given those relying on the tourist industry a much-needed boost to get them through the winter months.
