Contractors who are accused of damaging the walls of houses during works in Ennis say they will review the situation to determine if they are to blame.

Residents in parts of the town say they have been left with paint and structural damage following recent broadband works.

The firm which carried out the work says they’ll rectify any issues, if the works were to blame.

Footpaths have been torn up to allow the contractors to lay cables which will bring fibre-speed Virgin Media broadband to the Turnpike.

It’s taking place on a staggered basis and residents in areas including the Turnpike say their boundary walls were lefted chipped and damaged.

Clare FM listeners in other areas, such as Abbeyville and Clancy Park, have reported similar issues.

They want the damage fixed, but there’s frustration at how long this is taking.

Former town councillor and Turnpike Neighbourhood Watch coordinator Michael Guilfoyle says it’s dragging out.

Actavo, the contractor carrying out the works, has told Clare FM that a pre-works survey has been carried out, and pictures and footage will be examined to determine if their work is to blame.

If this is the case, they say they will work to repair the damage as quickly as possible.

Full statement from Actavo:

“Actavo is currently carrying out various engineering works in Ennis. The company’s number one priority is ensuring that pathways, walls and all other areas temporarily impacted by the construction are maintained in a safe state before, during and after this work. As is customary, in advance of carrying out construction works, Actavo instructs its subcontractors to conduct a pre-works survey – using video or photography – of property boundary walls and footpaths in order to identify any pre-existing damage. If residents raise concerns about the workmanship or perceived damage caused to property boundary or footpath as raised, a full review is conducted under the pre-works survey. If that damage is deemed as having been as a result of the work, we, in all cases, resolve the issue as quickly as possible for the customer.”
