Construction Scheduled For Ennis Flood Protection

Construction work is due to get underway in the coming months on long-awaited flood protection works in Ennis.

Parts of the town have become submerged in recent years during storm weather, most notably in 2009, when flood waters cut off the main access road and caused extensive damage to St Flannan’s College and other properties.

4.71 million euro in funding has been ring fenced by the OPW for the Ennis South Flood Relief Scheme and Clare County Council is appointing a contractor for the project shortly.

Works are expected to get underway in ten weeks time but Clare Fine Gael TD Joe Carey doesn’t expect the project to be finished on time for the coming winter:
