Concern Over Availability Of Maternity Services

Concern has been expressed over a failure to police the application of national clinical guidlines at the country’s maternity hospitals.

A new guide, compiled by parents support charity, Cuidiú has revealed wide variations in maternity services available, with a number of elements of maternity care unavailable to all mothers as they’re not offered in the local unit.

At times during 2016 and 2017 the rates of cesarian births, induced labours and instrumental births were higher at University Maternity Hospital Limerick than other hospitals.
