Clare homeowners urged to get smoke alarms for new year

Clare homeowners who don’t have a working smoke alarm are being urged to make it their New Year’s resolution to change that.

80 percent of all fire related deaths occour in the home and the risks of a blaze increase over the festive season due to things like unattended tealights or candles, overheating christmas lights or sockets, and chimney fires.

Senior Fire Officer with Clare County Council Denis O’Connell is also urging householders who do have smoke alarms to ensure they are in the correct location
