Clare Farmers Want Equal Treatment In Fair Deals Scheme

The Clare chair of the IFA insists farmers aren’t looking for special treatment in the Fair Deal Scheme – but want to be treated equally.

It’s after reports that the Office of the Attorney General has raised concerns that a review of the scheme could favour farmers over other business owners.

The scheme sees a person’s assets make up part of the fee for nursing homes – which is supplemented by the state – but while there’s a cap on what can be taken from the value of a house, there’s no limit for farms or small businesses.
