Clare Doctor Worried By Amount Of Impending GP Retirements

A North Clare doctor says’s he’s deeply concerned over the high number of doctors likely to retire in the coming years.

Lahinch-based Dr Michael Kelleher, who’s a member of the IMO’s GP Committee, is reacting to figures obtained by Tipperary Independent TD Mattie McGrath, which shows 157 GPs, currently practising in the health service will retire by 2021.

Deputy McGrath has also said he’s deeply concerned as this presents what he regards as a “full-scale emergency” in rural GP practice.
