Clare Councillors To Decide Today On Support For Presidential Candidate

Clare County Council is to issue a decision on which presidential hopeful – if any – they will back in their bid for the Áras.

Six hopefuls made their case to councillors here 10 days ago, including Joan Freeman and Seán Gallagher who have already secured their place on the ballot and have withdrawn from consideration in Clare as a result.

Anyone who is hoping to run against President Michael D Higgins needs to earn the support of at least four councils, or 20 Oireachtas members.
