A member of the Clare Tourism Recovery Task Force is confident the hospitality sector in this county can look forward to a higher level of international travel taking place next summer.

Ireland is one of only four European countries on the EU’s traffic light system for international travel that’s currently ‘orange’ – with the rest of the continent on red.

The tourism industry in Clare and elsewhere relied on so-called ‘staycation’ tourists throughout summer 2020 due to the onset of COVID-19.

Now, they’re hoping for a much needed end-of-year boost, but even with the easing of COVID restrictions restaurants and gastropubs won’t be allowed re-open until December 4th, while pubs that don’t serve food are to remain shut.

However, Maurice Walsh of Durty Nelly’s in Bunratty believes it will be far safer to welcome a greater level of international tourists here next summer.
