Call For Clare Border Communities To Be Granted Town Status

A South East Clare councillor is calling for town status to be granted to three large residential areas in that corner of the county.

Cathal Crowe says the large population and urban centre in the Westbury, Shannon Banks and Carraig Midhe areas justifies the move.

The new town, he believes, could be called Athlunkard – a name that is widely associated with all three.
