Bishop of Killaloe hails Ennis Galway rail line as major step forward for the region

The Bishop of Killaloe Dr. Willie Walsh has joined three of his counterparts in the West of Ireland to call on the government to proceed with the next phase of the Western Rail Corridor.

In a joint statement the four welcome the impending opening of the Ennis to Galway rail line at the end of the month describing it as a major step forward for the whole region, however they added that its imperative the next stage should proceed without delay.

Meanwhile campaigners for a rail stop in Crusheen have given a cautious welcome to reports that a positive announcement is expected on this in the coming weeks.

The new Ennis – Galway to Limerick line  includes new stops at Sixmilebridge, Gort, Ardrahan, and Craughwell but Irish Rail says it has no plans at this stage to include one at Crusheen however  its now claimed the stop will be officially announced when the line opens at the end of the month.

Irish Rail has made no official comment on this and Crusheen Councillor Michael Kelly has given it a guarded welcome
