The Acting CEO of Shannon Group last week appealed for people, particularly political representatives, to row in behind efforts to secure additional support for Shannon Airport.

It followed criticism of the Airport Authority, in the wake of a 3.3% drop in passenger numbers over the first six months of the year.

Mary Considine said Shannon needs more government support to deliver connectivity for the MidWest.

Shannon advocate and longtime Sixmilebridge Councillor PJ Ryan agrees that more support is needed and says its time for the government to step up to the mark.

Clare Fine Gael TD Joe Carey has admitted that the Government could do more to support Shannon and insists there’s an onus on both it, and the board, to deliver for the airport and the region.

Deputy Carey admits the Transport Minister’s failure to visit the midwest facility is a blot on his record, but believes that while Shane Ross doesn’t demonstrate it well, he does care about its future.
