The head of the UL Hospitals Group insists that the families of eight people, whose deaths have been linked to a deadly superbug, have been their top priority in producing an external review of the cases.
The results of an external investigation were released today, after a whistleblower raised concerns over the deaths of a number patients who tested positive for CPE.
The study confirmed that CPE was associated with the deaths of eight patients, all of whom had underlying health problems, though none of whom died directly from the superbug.
It was confirmed today that all next-of-kin of the patients concerned were contacted by the hospitals group – with the exception of one who was not an Irish national.
Five of the seven families chose to meet personally with hospital management, while two did not.
