Supermac’s Lodges Fresh Planning Application For Clare Motorway Plaza

Supermacs owner Pat McDonagh has lodged a fresh planning application with Clare County Council to allow him develop a motorway service station near Ennis.

This is the fourth time that an application of this kind has been made for the site near Junction 12 on the M18 – two previous applications were withdrawn, and while the Council gave the green light to another, this was overturned by An Bord Pleanala.

Supermacs says the 10 million euro project will create 110 jobs, along with further employment during construction, and they also insist that the site will promote Clare, bring visitors off of the Motorway and into the rest of the county.

Howevery a number of businesspeople in Ennis Town Centre have previously stated their opposition to the development, saying it could damage trade in the town centre.

Speaking last month, Pat McDonagh insisted that wouldn’t be the case
