Clare County Council has lodged a Part 8 Planning Application for the development of an Inner Relief Road in Ennistymon.

This will include a new vehicular bridge crossing of the Inagh River, around 80 metres upstream of the existing crossing.

The overall route runs from a point 170 metres southeast of Blake’s Corner on the Inagh to Ennistymon Road to one 180 metres west of the corner on the Ennistymon to Lahinch Road.

The plan includes the pedestrianisation of the existing bridge, the inclusion of a roundabout at the Western end of the proposed new bridge crossing on the L-1084 and the relocation of the existing public car park adjacent to New Road.

It also includes the controversial demolition of three existing properties – a move that has been objected to by the property owners.

A decision is due by March 8th.
