Clare Farmers Representative Says Restrictions Of Mince Exports After Brexit ‘Potentially Disastrous’

The Clare-based General Secretary of the ICSA says a potential two way ban on chilled mince beef products between the EU and the UK is ‘potentially disastrous’.

Officials are engaged in last minute talks in an attempt to avoid the restrictions of products such as sausages, mince and prepared meals moving between Britain and Ireland post-Brexit.

Under EU rules, there are restrictions of certain meat products from outside the Union – and it’s reported the UK will apply similar bans on foods coming from Ireland next year.

Cratloe farmer Eddie Punch says farmers having to freeze their beef for selling it will significantly decrease its value.
