The Shannon father of a young girl with cystic fibrosis says he fears the questions surrounding the future of the government could hurt their efforts to convince the government to fund a vital life-enabling drug.

For around nine months, talks have been ongoing with the makers of Orkambi, which comes with an annual cost of 190 thousand euro.

The drug has now been found to provide an even bigger health boost than had previously been thought, and CF Ireland hope this will be enough to convince negotiators to sign off on a deal.

However, Kieran McCarthy, who’s also on the National Executive Committee of CF Ireland, fears that may not happen as political attentions are diverted elsewhere.
