Morning Focus – Wednesday 27/11/19

Today on Morning Focus we were joined in studio by some of the people behind the book, Days Of Our Youth which is a celebration of the Corofinn Youth Club from 1964 – 2019.

Breda Shannon edited and recorded memoirs for the book, Dermot Hayes and Joe O’ Connell were members of the committee which looked after organising donations to cover publication costs. The book holds many stories and memories from people of the Corofinn Youth Club!

Before that on the show, we discussed how figures have appeared to show an increase in long-term housing needs in Clare. Figures revealed that the number of people in receipt of rent supplements in Clare is falling. However, there’s been an increase in the number of tenants on the Rental Accommodation Scheme, for those with long-term housing needs.
Cllr and Chair of the Clare Housing Committee, Gerry Flynn joined Pat on the line to give us his insight into these figures.

Next on Morning Focus, Michael Vaughan of Vaughan Lodge, Lahinch joined Pat in studio to discuss the statistics which revealed that there has been an increase in visitors to Ireland from Britain despite Brexit looming and the fact that the number of visitors from the USA and Canada has dropped this could be to the cancellation of routes. Michael gave us his thoughts on these figures and the effect he thinks this may have on County Clare.

Next, Leonore O’Neill, SEO of Ennis Municipal District, joined us in studio to give us a breakdown of all the events taking place over the holiday season in Ennis!
IFA Candidate John Caughlan

IFA candidate, John Coughlan, joined Pat on air to discuss the protests which have been taken place near Leinster House in Dublin, the protests were in light of what farmers say is a crisis in rural Ireland.

 

Next on the show, Ashley and Michael Hoare and Ann Norton of Clare Crusaders Clinic joined Pat in studio following from their interview with us in September to talk about a fundraiser they were organising in memory of Kevin Hoare. The event was a Golf Classic and it raised €32,977.86, the money was donated to the Clare Crusaders Clinic.

To wrap up today’s show, John Underhill of Burren Vets joined us on air to discuss on how to be cautious with rat poison and small animals.
