Wednesday’s Morning Focus began with rural businesses’ fight for survival. Gavin talked to Laurence O’Brien who was forced to close his own shop O’Brien’s County Stores in Kilmaley due to rising charges and lack of support for rural business.

Then, has Trump finally crossed the line? American tariffs on EU exports are causing the EU to consider higher tariffs on American whiskey. Could this cause America to retaliate with their own tariffs on EU whiskey, including Irish whiskey? Gavin and Louise McGuane of Chapel Gate Whiskey discussed the answer to that question.

Finishing the first hour of our show, Sinn Féin MEP, Liadh Ní Riada discussed the party’s plans to find a coalition partner going into the next election.

Opening Morning Focus’ second hour was Dr. Máire Flynn for our Ask the GP segment. She addressed all our fair weather woes and any other health concerns that Clare had.

Then Gavin interviewed the Minister for Transport Shane Ross. They discussed the decline of rural Ireland and the transport issues faced by people in the countryside.  The Minister also announced just over €1.3 million in funding for rural routes in Clare, under the Community Involvement Scheme.

Lastly on the second hour, Joe Arkins of the Cathaoirleach Comhaltas Ceoilteoirí Éireann, Contae an Chláir discussed Fleadh na Mumhan’s search for volunteers.  They’re holding a meeting at Treacy’s West County Hotel on Thursday night at 8:30.

Going into the last hour of Morning Focus, we heard from Bernard Lucas and company about the Caitríona Lucas Challenge. The challenge aims to honour the late coastguard volunteer, Caitríona Lucas who died in a sea search operation in Kilkee in September 2016 and raise money for Friends of Ennistymon Hospital.

Then we heard the debut of our new segment: ‘The Best Song You’ve Never Heard’. In this segment Gavin and Clare FM’s own Brian Flynn discuss the songs that time may have forgotten or songs that should have made it big that didn’t that you should be listening to today.

Finally, today’s show ended with our Ask the Vet segment with vet, John Underhill.
