Tuesday’s Morning Focus heard about the extraordinary talent of the late Dolores O’Riordan.

At just 46 years of age, the Cranberries lead singer, a Limerick native, passed away at a London hotel.

Tributes from all over the world have been pouring in since news of her passing broke on Monday (Jan 15) evening.

Gavin was joined on the line by Clare FM’s Mickey Mac who shared his memories.

The show opened by looking at the position of Clare’s Oireachtas members on the Eight Amendment and proposals to repeal it and allow abortion on request up to 12 weeks.

Gavin heard today from Deputy Michael Harty and Senator Martin Conway.

Then, talk turned to an ongoing Traveller feud, with Clare’s Garda Chief Superintendent John Kerin warning that someone will be killed unless an end is called to the row.

After that, Gavin was joined in studio by Patricia O’Gorman, Operational Director of Nursing at Ennis.

Money Doctor John Lowe joined Gavin with more advice for managing finances in 2018.

Then, Gavin heard from Clare rape survivor Shaneda Daly who is holding a meeting for others affected. It takes place in the Punches’ Cross area of Limerick on Wednesday night (Jan 17) and details can be obtained from Shaneda on Facebook.

Ennistymon’s Courthouse Gallery is hosting a project by a number of young curators from Scoil Mhuire and the local vocational school. Gavin was joined by Scoil Mhuire art teacher, Mary Fahy and some of young curators, Emma Clany and Ciara Rodriguez. Listen back below:

There was an item then on the Healthy Clubs scheme promoted by the GAA. Gavin heard from Dr Aoife Lane who has evaluated the scheme. He also heard from Karen Williamson of Parteen GAA Club, the first one in Clare to be awarded the Healthy Clubs title and from Malin Kelly from Cooraclare who are set to apply for the scheme. The show rounded off with a discussion of the risks of esophageal cancer with Noelle Ryann of the Oesophageal Cancer Society. It came ahead of their major fundraiser – Lollipop Day – February 23 and 24.
