Morning Focus – Thursday 14/09/17

Thursday’s Morning Focus joined Ireland’s biggest coffee morning at Cahercalla Hospice, where the aim is to raise up to €50,000 for local services.

Gavin heard from a number of people holding coffee mornings around the county and Morning Focus producer Fiona McGarry visited Cahercalla to hear from some of those taking part in events there.

She spoke to Fundraising Manager Mary Moloney, Hospice Hero Cllr Mary Howard and Eugene Keane who’s mum passed away earlier this year, under the care of Cahercalla Hospice.

The show opened with a discussion of why older people are waiting longer in our Emergency Departments. It follows a study published in the Irish Medical Journal. Gavin spoke with Lahinch GP Dr Michael Kelleher about what his older patients are experiencing.

As the Wild Atlantic Way goes from strength-to-strength, there are hopes of creating a number of loops in the Burren and in Loughrea.
