The government launched Pathways to Work 2013, the 50-point action plan to fight long-term unemployment last Thursday
The plan will build on the progress made over the past year by the Government to tackle the unemployment challenge

On Monday’s Morning Focus John Cooke spoke with Social Protection Minister Joan Burton about the plan.

Since Friday evening last Ireland is officially in drought – which is 15  days in a row with virtually no rain
With a drought comes a shortage of water and while some local authorities like Tipperary South and Galway have implemented a hose ban – Clare County Council  is just urging people to try and conserve supplies as much as possible

At the Bruce Springstein’s concert last Tuesday Kilrush barber James Coughlan presented the boss with an Irish passport he had developed with the help of his son Christopher
James was then invited to have a drink with The Boss- he spoke about his experience with John
It was his 50th Bruce concert – and he began queuing outside Thomond park on Saturday to ensure his position at the front
He got a call from Bruce about an hour after the gig inviting him to meet him for a drink at Adare Manor – which he did
James added that he has got a lot of business in his barbershop since the gig- people are coming in to talk about the concert and hear about his meeting with the boss!

Crime Prevention Officer with the Clare Garda Division Sergeant Joe Downey joined John in studio to appeal for the public’s assistance with information on crimes committed in the past week

Feakle will host an International Health Conference in August as part of The Gathering 2013
The therapeutic effects of Irish set dancing in the treatment of Parkinson’s Disease will take place on Tuesday 6th August
Prof Daniele Volpe is returning to Feakle, with an Italian delegation, where the idea for his research into the therapeutic effects of set dancing on Parkinson’s first began  He will give the findings of this research with fellow speakers Prof Timothy Lynch and Dr Amanda Clifford
Conference Manager and occupational therapist Breda Collins and local Councillor and member of East Clare Tourism Pat Hayes joined John in studio to discuss how it came about.

Peader White joined John in studio to publicise a Samaritans fundraiser in Ennis this week
He is organising and participating in the 24 hour stagnant cycle taking place at the height in Ennis this Wednesday from 12 noon til 12 noon Thursday
They will have two exercise bikes and if you’d like to volunteer to help them be there on Wednesday
They are doing this to raise awareness and funds for the Ennis Samaritans.
