Friday’s edition of Morning Focus caught up with Commander Chris Hadfield, who touched down at Shannon Airport this week.

The show opened with a discussion of new figures revealing the scale of deprivation in Clare and the areas worst affected by the Recession. These include parts of Ennis and Kilrush and Pat Flynn was joined on the line by Cllr Ian Lynch (West Clare MD) and Johnny Flynn (Ennis MD).

The show then heard that in the month of November, burglaries rise by over 45 percent. Pat spoke with Emmet Kavanagh of PhoneWatch who had advice and tips on preventing theft from the home.

Another issue generating headlines this week was the finding that Minister John Halligan discriminated against a woman by asking her at a job interview about her marital status and family. To discuss what can and can’t be asked, Pat was joined by Will Cahir. Will, who is President of Ennis Chamber of Commerce, also previewed the FBD Clare Business Excellence Awards.

Later in the show, Siobhán Mulcahy, Clare County Arts Officer, presented her round up of weekend arts events.

The round-up of weekend events covered happenings in West Clare and Ennis.
