Morning Focus kicked off today with presidential candidate Seán Gallagher ahead of the election this Friday. 

After missing out on becoming President back in 2011 successfull businessman Seán Gallagher decided to enter the race again this time.

Dr John Hillery, President, Irish College of Psychiatrists spoke about concerns over the restraint of mental health centres across the country. According to figures from The Inspector of Mental Health Services more than 1,000 patients were physically restrained or secluded an average of 4 times each per year.

Fine Gael MEP, Deirdre Clune called for action on Clare beach pollution. Clune is urging people to stop flushing wet wipes down the toilet as they cause catastrophic damage to Ireland’s coastline.

The second hour of the show bega with regular segment ‘Garda Focus.’ Clare Crime Prevention Officer Sgt Tríona O’Rourke gave her report from across the county.

Dep Maria Bailey informed us about an Ennis event which celebrates the anniversary of women’s voting rights. Fine Gael TD, Maria Bailey is the 100th female Oireactas member and will be one of the speakers at a ‘Vótáil 100’ meeting tonight (October 22) at 8pm in the Old Ground Hotel, Ennis.

Barbara Community & Family Support Development Worker, North West Clare Family Resource Centre was on the line to talk supports for parents and families in North Clare.

Dr Mary Ryan, Consultant Endocrinologist told us about the new guide to hormone health for women. Cleanmarine has produced ‘The Essential Guide to Female Hormones’ for women aged 12 to 60 years. The guide is now available to download for free. Click here

In the final hour of Morning Focus we had the regular Monday Sports Panel with Clare FM’s Head of Sport, Derrick Lynch and Eoin Brennan, The Clare People. They discussed the week’s sporting events and achievements with in-depth analysis of Sunday’s match at Cusack Park, Ennis when Ballyea won the Clare Senior Hurling Final against Cratloe.

Eileen O’Malley was live in studio with Gavin to discuss tackling the plastic pollution problem in West Clare. An event called ‘Local Solution to Plastic Pollution’ will be held in the Armada hotel in Spanish Point on Tuesday, October 23 to raise awareness of the issue in West Clare communities.
