Joan Burton Speaks Ahead Of Mother and Baby Homes Report Publication

The final report of the Commission of Investigation into Mother and Baby Homes has been discussed by Cabinet and is being presented to survivors and advocates before publication later today.

The details of the report were leaked over the weekend before survivors were told about the findings, something the Taoiseach has described as “regrettable” – Micheal Martin is to issue a state apology in the Dáil later this week.

The report is expected to reveal that 9,000 children died in the 18 institutions which were investigated.
