Clare FM Celebrates 30th Birthday

Celebrations are taking place today as Clare FM looks back over 30 years on air.

Over the past three decades, the Banner’s number one station has developed a strong reputation at home and abroad, as well as a loyal and large following in the county.

Clare native and then President of Ireland, Patrick Hillary launched Clare FM on this day in 1989 and since then has been proud to be at the heart of some of Clare’s most famous days.

Clare FM has endeavored to build strong community links, as well as giving a voice to people living locally and our diaspora abroad.

The station has also won a host of national and international awards.

Gary Shannon from the Kilfenora Céilí Band remembers how Clare FM made a big impact when it first hit the airwaves.

Clare FM hopes to continue to go from strength to strength over the coming decades, in spite of the changes within, and challenges facing broadcasters.

General Manager Susan Murphy has thanked listeners, advertisers and staff for their loyal support, and believes the industry has a bright future.

Today though, is a day of celebration and hundreds of listeners have been in touch with their Happy Birthday messages on this landmark occasion.
