Today saw the show begin once more with the fight to save rural Ireland’s post offices.

We heard from Cllr. Bill Chambers (Fianna Fáil) who represented Cooraclare. Both Cooraclare and Cree are slated to lose their post offices and in response both communities have organized a joint meeting in the Cooraclare Community Hall tonight at 9:00PM (August 16th). This comes after Lissycasey held a similar meeting earlier in the week.

Then, we asked the questions that perhaps many school leavers are asking, after the release of the Leaving Cert results yesterday, as we were joined by Oliver O’Connor, Guidance Counsellor for St. Joseph’s Secondary School in Tulla.

Rounding out the hour we heard from the Rose of Clare, Clare Burke from Tullycrine. While Clare is enjoying the Rose of Tralee Festival much of people’s attention is on the weekend when she’ll find out whether she’s been selected for the televised portion of the event.

Moving into the second hour we heard from show regular Dr Toby Sachsenmaier for our Parenting Advice segment. This week’s focus was on preparing kids for the transition from primary to secondary school.

Then we had another regular, Clare County Arts Officer Siobhán Mulcahy, for our Arts round-up segment.

Finally, the show ended with a spotlight on one particular event this Heritage Week. On August 19th an exhibition will take place to remember Kilrush ceramics. Established in 1961 and trading until 1983, the factory is still fondly remembered today for its use of quirky colours and patterns. Retired TDs Brendan Daly and Madeleine Taylor Quinn who fought to save the factory in the 1980s have been invited to attend.
