A transatlantic jet has made an unscheduled landing at Shannon Airport following a medical emergency.

Crew on board Air Canada flight AC-859 was around 90 minutes into its journey from London to Toronto last night when the crew opted to turn around and divert.

The crew reported that a man his 50’s had fallen ill – It’s understood he was suffering from internal bleeding.

The Boeing 787-800 Dreamliner landed at 9.12pm and taxied to the terminal where medics were standing by.

The patient was assessed and treated on board before being transported to University Hospital Limerick for treatment.
