It was another busy week of handball action in Clare.
Adult Leagues
Finals in Division 2,3, and 4 have been played with Div 1 Monday night 12th
Division 2 saw Tulla (Alan Leamy, Oisin Donnellan, John Fahy and Daniel Vaughan) defeat Clooney (Cian Keogh, Matthew Coughlan, Darragh Keogh and David Considine) by 6pts in Clarecastle, Ref Tommy Hegarty.
Division 3 saw Clarecastle (Jake Kearney, Finbarr Sheridan, Jordan Barnes, Jack Hayes) dft Toonagh(Alan Cummins, Cathal Noonan, Christian Cummins and Deckie Vaughan), played in Newmarket on Fergus, Ref Cian Fawl.
Division 4 saw Kilkishen(Keith Crehan, Oisin Cleary, Mikie Canny, David Kennedy) dft Clarecastle(Jeff Coughlan, John Sweeney, Cailean Hayes, Jamie Coughlan) with Kilkishen also having Tim Custy, Joe Hogan, Alan O’Dea, Fergal Kennedy, Martin Bon, Simon Daz, Mike Cotter, James Downing and Darragh Moroney on their panel. Juvenile Munster Championship
Played in Clarecastle on Saturday gone was a shorter list of games than expected. There were 4 games played with Clare victorious in all grades. There were 3 games called off as Waterford withdrew from boys U15 doubles, U16 Singles and Doubles. The U15 singles game was deferred to Saturday 17th due to injury.
In the U14 Girls Singles Saoirse O’Brien(Tuamgraney) replaced Lorna Casey(Toonagh) who is injured and out of action for a few weeks. Saoirse defeated Saili O’Connor (Tipperary) in two games. The U14 Girls Doubles Juliet Moroney/Chloe Hannon(Kilkishen) defeated Laura Bereford/Amy Bereford(Waterford) in two games. U14 Boys Singles had Jack Cahill(Clooney) defeat Patrick Mullaney(Waterford) in two games and the U15 doubles finished a clean sweep with U15 Boys Doubles Cillian Cummins/Darragh Casey(Toonagh) defeating Owen Morrissey/Darragh Gough(Waterford)
U15 Boys Singles Sean Daly(Tuamgraney) v Alex Doyle(Waterford) will be played in Dungarvan Sunday 18th at 3pm.
The winners from the weekend along with U14 Boys Doubles Charlie Collins(Tuamgraney)/Conor Littleton(Tulla), U16 Boys Singles Sean Considine(Clooney) and U16 Boys Doubles Paul Rodgers(Tuamgraney)/Liam Murphy(Kilkishen) are all now through to Munster Finals weekend of Feb 23-25.
Cumann na mBunsoil
All-Ireland day will take place on Sunday February 18th in the National Handball Centre in Croke Park. Each province will be represented with girls and boys in U11 and 13 singles and doubles. Munster will be represented by Clare schools in the Girls U11 singles (Saoirse Frost, Kilkishen NS) will play opposition from Mayo, Dublin and Tyrone. U11 doubles (Sophia Moloney/Ella Kirby, Clonmoney NS) will play pairings from Leitrim, Kilkenny and Tyrone. Boys U11 doubles (Cian Donnellan/John MacDonnacha, Kilkishen NS) will play pairs from Galway, Kilkenny and Tyrone while U13 Singles (Daniel Madden, Scariff NS) will play Roscommon, Kilkenny and Tyrone.
Juvenile B Championships
With over 100 games a weekend taking place of the last 4 weeks, these will start to cross groupings now as grades start to come to the knock out stages. There have been great games with full alleys over the last month.
Colleges Travel to USA
The Irish Colleges will travel to Minnesota USA for American Collegiate games. Heading on the travels representing UL at the end of next week will be Sean Coughlan, Clooney and UL, Leah Minogue, Tuamgraney and UL and Amber Nolan Tuamgraney and UL. Safe travels and best of luck to all.
Clare Adult Doubles/Singles
Confined to Clare players, Clare will run a doubles and singles competition. Entry is due by Friday 16th and player are to enter their pairs(which must be from same club) and indicate if playing singles also.
This is the first year of this and will give further opportunity to players to keep fit and sharp over the Spring. This has been committed to run on nights when players will not be on team GAA duty with clubs as hurling season resumes. Contact county Secretary for any further information.
