JJ Doyle’s side came from behind to claim victory by 1-21 to 21 points.
The Cats were three up at half-time, but Wexford’s Jack Guiney pointed a free with the last puck of normal time to make it 17 points each.
In the dying seconds of extra-time the Kilkenny goalkeeper was put under pressure and dropped the ball over his own goal-line.
Guiney scored 11 points in total.
