Joe Ward’s slender hopes of competing at the London Olympics have been ended.
The Irish Amateur Boxing Association have confirmed that international governing body, the A.I.B.A, have denied their request that Ward be granted a wild card for this year’s Olympics.

In a statement, the AIBA said that Ward didn’t meet the criteria of being the "next best" boxer in Europe.
