Ward Claims Third World Boxing Elite Championship Medal

Joe Ward has become the first Irishman to win a third World Boxing Elite Championship medal.

The 23 year old Westmeath fighter won his quarter final in Hamburg last night, to secure at least a bronze from this year’s tournament.

He brought a silver medal home from Doha two years ago, and a bronze from Almaty in 2013.

Roger Federer has survived a scare to remain in the hunt for his third Grand Slam title of the year.

The 36 year old struggled to beat American teenager Frances Tiafoe in the first round of the U-S Open in New York.

Federer came from behind to win the match in the deciding set.
